Children's assistance to protect environment

A programme themed 'an environment friendly tomorrow for nations' child generation' has been launched by the founder of the Jathika Namal Uyana project Ven Wanawasi Rahula Thera following a concept of the Jathika Namal Uyana Development Trust Chairperson Namal Rajapaksa MP to help resolve the burgeoning environmental problem in the country with the assistance of the child population.

Ven Rahula thera said that under this programme he hoped to set up Namal Kekulu environmental organisations at school level with the sponsorship of the Education Ministry.

Initially these organisations will be set up targeting the 365 national schools in the country with a membership pool of 100,000 children. Actress and Parliamentarian Malani Fonseka will be the chief consultant of this programme.

Parliamentary Affairs Secretary to the President and National Namal Uyana Development Trust Secretary Kumarasiri Hettige said this will be the first manpower pool comprising school- children set up in the country to protect the environment, and social and cultural values.
