State media get cricket broadcasting rights

Cabinet has decided to grant television and radio broadcasting rights of international cricket matches played in Sri Lanka and overseas exclusively to the state media.

Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa announced this at the Cabinet briefing at the Information Department Auditorium yesterday.

He said that it was also decided to consider providing such broadcasting rights to television and radio channels which are exclusively dedicated to sports, on negotiated terms.

The proposal was made by Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
