Over 9,600 dengue cases, 73 deaths

Health Ministry Epidemiology Unit statistics reveal that 9,660 dengue cases and 73 deaths had been reported from all parts of the country by Tuesday, sources said.

According to the sources the number of dengue cases reported until June 28 was 2,863. "The number of deaths reported during the same period was 10. There were 1,956 dengue cases and 19 deaths in May. The highest number of dengue case, 1371 was reported from the Colombo district.

Gampaha district recorded 425 cases and Kalutara recorded 154 cases," the sources said. Around 615 Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases had been reported from the Colombo Municipal Council area during this month. Another 756 DHF cases had been reported during the same period from all the other parts of the Colombo district, the sources said.

The lowest number of dengue cases were reported from Kilinochchi and Mannar, each two.

A large number of dengue cases were reported from those areas earlier. The National Mosquito Control Week commenced on June 20 and ended on June 26.
