The body of Sri Lankan housemaid G. Pushpalatha, 27, of 60 acre
colony, Mundalama who had died while working in a household in Saudi
Arabia was brought down to Sri Lanka and handed over to her husband and
relatives by Sri Lankan authorities. The body was later interred at the
Mundalama cemetery by her family.
Although Pushpalatha is alleged to have committed suicide at the
Saudi Arabian home by hanging herself, her husband D.G. Anura Bandara
had said he had suspicions about her death and requested local
authorities to conduct an impartial inquiry.
The employment agency which sent his wife for employment on December
19, 2010 had requested Rs 500,000 from him to get down her body to Sri
Lanka.
Local authorities later intervened and got her body down in response
to a request made by Bandara. Pushpalatha’s husband also said that there
were no tell tale signs around his wife’s neck to suggest suicide
either.
