The Ranfers Sprints Rowing is an event meant for the pleasure of all spectators as it is rowed over a distance of only 300m. This is done to give the onlookers a chance to witness the start and the finish of the event from one position. Rowing championships are usually rowed for more than 1000 meters where the spectators are denied of watching the the full event. This has led the sport backwards as the fans do not take a keen interest to attend these said John de Niese addressing a press briefing at the Rowing Club.

He further said that with the sole intention of promoting the sport and to encourage the spectator for the sport this event was introduced. During the past years the event has been patronized by many fans and proved hat the event is catching up with the sport loving public.

This around eighty rowers are expected to compete in Scull, Pairs and Fours each having for row up and down basis to gather points which will decide the winner in each category. Also there will be varying point system for the two events which will accounted for the team as this will be a team battle.

Thomas' College, Ananda College, University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa, Women Ladies College, Musaeus College, Bishops College and University of Colombo.
