Complaints Centre in operation

An Elections Complaints Centre is in operation from June 20 to take prompt action with regard to complaints received from political parties, independent groups, candidates, civil organizations and the public in relation to the local councils election scheduled for July 23.

The Centre consists of officials of the Elections Department and Police Department, a representative of each contesting political parties and the two elections observe organizations – PAFFREL and CMEV.

Complaints can be made to 011-2877611 or faxed to 011-2877612 or 011-2877613.

Complaints can also be made to 011-2868441, 011-2868442 or 011-2868443 on extensions 201,202,207 or 011-2868444-direct. The other fax numbers for complaints are 011-2868445, 011-2868367 or 011-1868368.

Complaints can also be made to District Returning Officers, District Secretaries, Deputy Senior Assistant or Assistant Commissioners of Elections of the areas where the election will be held.

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that complaints should be based on actual facts or incidents and not on hearsay.

Informants should clearly indicate their names, addresses and contact numbers. Complaints made by complainants who wish to remain unidentified will also be entertained, Deshapriya said.
