House donation under Api Wenuwen Api

The housing project Api Wenuwen Api launched by the Defence Ministry to provide shelter for war heroes has reached its fourth stage.

Houses constructed in Badulla and Moneragala districts under this project, will be donated to war heroes under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s patronage. Symbolizing the donation, President Rajapaksa will handover keys of a house constructed in Thelulla colony in the Moneragala district to disabled war hero Cpl J K Wipula Kumara at a ceremony organized at the Athiliwewa primary school on June 25.


Religious programme

A series of religious programme have been organised at Sri Sunandaramaya, Thalwatte, Bollegala from June 22 to 26 to mark the first death anniversary of Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sunandaramaya and Mahanayake of Asgiri Maha Nikaya – Siyam sect Most Ven Aludeniye Sri Pannananda Thera under the patronage of the Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Thera.

This programme includes anusasanas, atavisi Buddha pooja, an alms-giving to Maha Sangha and unveiling of a statue of the thera.


O positive kidney needed

B H Sarath Kalyana Peiris, 60, is suffering from an acute kidney disease and needs an O positive kidney.

Mail to Canada suspended

Canada Post has informed that they are unable to accept any incoming foreign mail due to continuous Trade Union action.

The Postal Department advised all customers not to post any mail to Canada until further notice.


She elephant shot dead

A she elephant in Ihala Puliyankulama area in the Kekirawa Police Division has been shot dead, wildlife officials said.

They said a 12-bore gun had been used to shoot the elephant.

The postmortem was conducted by veterinary surgeon Chandana Jayasinghe who concluded that the she elephant had died as a result of deadly injuries caused by a 12-bore gun.


Daham Sevane Singiththo on Rupavahini

Daham Sevane Singiththo, a programme for children will be telecast on National Rupavahini on June 30 at 5.30pm.

Daham Sevane Singiththo is a children's development foundation founded by Shibiya Buddhist Temple in Japan Chief Incumbent Ven Suduhumpola Wimalasara Thera.

The foundation conducts regular children's workshops to increase awareness and improve fundamental Sri Lankan values, such as respecting parents and teachers, amongst children living in remote areas.

The foundation uses tools such as dramas, concerts, trips, television programmes, musical shows and reading facilities to entertain the children.


Anti-dengue Campaign

Crescent Schools International will conduct an anti-dengue campaign as part of the students extra curricular activity today from 9 am to 1 pm.

Students of Crescent Schools International, staff and parents will help clean identified areas in Dematagoda, Kolonnawa and Wellampitiya.


Islamic lectures

Islamic scholar, Ustadh Abu Taubah will deliver talks today and tomorrow at 8 p.m. after Isha prayers at Lower Bagatalle Masjid, Marine Drive, Colombo 3.


Workshop

A workshop on personal development will be held tomorrow from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm at Sanhinda Leisure Centre, Nugegoda organized by the Past Pupil's Association of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda. Contact 0777555165 for further details.
