New colour scheme for buses soon

A new colour scheme will be introduced for all passenger transport buses soon. Normal buses will be painted in one colour while semi luxury buses will be painted in another colour. All air-conditioned buses or luxury buses will be painted in a separate colour, Private Transport Minister C B Rathnayake said.

The minister said that the new colour scheme will be introduced along with new service contracts and bus procurements, so that the painting of buses will not incur additional costs.

"Passengers will be able to identify the bus from the colour. Some passengers are not aware which bus they have got in to. To prevent such inconveniences this colour scheme will be implemented," Ratnayake said. "The aim of the new colour scheme is to make the use of public transport easier and make buses more attractive," the minister said. Meanwhile, the minister said that nearly 25 fully pledged rest rooms will be set up in each district.

"Many passengers complain that there are no proper restrooms.

These centres will be set up immediately throughout the country. Priority will be given for main cities," Ratnayake said.
