The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has paid Rs 200 million
as compensation to farmers in all districts whose cultivation had been
affected by rain and floods during January this year, the Board's
Chairperson Sumana Ariyadasa said.
Around 5,000 farmers in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Batticaloa
and Trincomalee have been paid compensation. Hambantota, Kurunegala,
Nuwara-Eliya and Matale district farmers are also being paid
compensation, she said.
"This is to help solve farmers' unrest. Farmers now have the
opportunity to resume their farming for the next season," she said. |
