Crack-down on child labour, abuse

The National Child Protection Authority will take stern action against persons who support child abuse and child labour.

Strict legal action will be taken against persons who use children under 15 for labour or abuse them.

The bureau will take action within 24 hours following any complaints regarding child abuse, NCPA Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake said.

"Beggars with children will be taken into custody.

These children will be sent to a rehabilitation centre while the elder will be produced before court," Dissanayake said. "Persons guilty of child labour will not be allowed bail," she said.
