The talks also dealt on starting new projects aimed at Sri Lanka's
economic development.
The Bahrain Finance Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka could achieve
its economic targets through the tourist industry as the country's
situation had returned to normality. Prime Minister Jayaratne said that
there were certain wrong beliefs in the international arena about Sri
Lanka and said it was pathetic that certain foreign powers were
obstructing the government's development initiatives at a time when the
country was striving to achieve economic targets after defeating 30
years of terrorism.
The Prime Minister said the government's aim was to direct the entire
population on the development path, setting aside religious and racial
differences.
