The foundation laying ceremony for a
housing project in Kolonnawa was held on Monday under the
patronage of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa. The project
which has been undertaken by the Urban Development Authority
under the guidance of the Defence Ministry will comprise 600

The Mihintale Poya Ge which will be
constructed by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited

Moratuwa YMCA on top
Moratuwa YMCA carried away the Challenge Trophy for the ‘Best
YMCA-2010’ at the annual awards ceremony held in conjunction with the
46th Annual General Meeting of the National Council of the YMCAs of Sri
Lanka.
The Challenge Trophy was sponsored by the Y’s Men International Sri
Lanka.
Among several other awards given away, the Moratuwa YMCA also bagged
the awards for the ‘Best Membership drive’ and ‘the Best Fund Raising
Initiative’.
The event took place on May 21 at the YMCA International Centre,
Kurana, Negombo attended by delegates from 38 YMCAs spread throughout
the length and breadth of the country including the North and East.
The awards competition was conducted by an independent panel
appointed by the National Council under stringent criteria including
visits to the competing YMCAs.
The office bearers of the Moratuwa YMCA during 2010 were:Lasla
Fernando (President), Deepthi Perera (Vice President), Nihal Peiris(Vice
President), Brian Coorey(Vice President), Bernard Fernando(Vice
President), Shantha Fernando(Treasurer) and Sampath Fernando(General
Secretary).
Patient seeks help
C. I. Kurukulasuriya (36), a father of two of Uda Eriyagama,
Peradeniya is suffering from advanced liver disease (non-Alcoholic
cirrhosis). Consultant physician Dr Anuradha Dissanayake has recommended
a liver transplant to cure his illness. The surgery to be performed in
India is estimated to cost eight million rupees. Kurukulasuriya says he
is unable to foot the bill due to his financial plight.
He requests the public to assist his cause by sending financial

New place for SLFEA
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency (SLFEA) situated at Union
Place, Colombo 2 will move into its new premises at No. 12, Narahenpita
road, Nawala today (June 23).
The opening ceremony of the new premises will be held at 10 am today
under the patronage of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister
Dilan Perera, External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris and Hambantota
District MP Namal Rajapaksa.
Public talk
