Eight schools from Kandy for Under 17 hockey tourney

Eight schools from the Kandy District will compete in the Kandy Schools Boys Under 17 hockey championship which will commence on Thursday June 23 at the University grounds, Peradeniya.

A spokesman for the organisers, Kandy District Schools Hockey Association said, that this year that the tournament is conducted early so that it could be completed before the all island championship and the schools eligible could practise and be in readiness for this championship.

Dharmaraja College, Kingswood College and Trinity College go out as top favourites with St Sylvester's College too capable of upsets.

The eight teams have been grouped as follows.

Group A: Kingswood College, Dharmaraja College, Vidyartha College, Menikdiwela Central College, Yatinuwara.

Group B: Trinity College, St Sylvester's College, Sri Sumangala College and Hewaheta Central College, Talatu oya.
