K'pitiya rubber factory blaze doused

A fire which erupted at a rubber factory at Kerawalapitiya was brought under control by fire fighters before it spread to adjoining buildings, including the Kerawalapitiya power plant.

Fire fighters of the Colombo Fire Brigade (CFB) rushed to the scene within hours and controlled the blaze. The fire erupted at a rubber manufacturing plant at Kerawalapitiya close to the Kerawalapitiya Thermal Power Plant.

The Colombo Fire Brigade used six vehicles together with air support provided by the Air Force. There was no damage to the Kerawalapitiya power plant and none was affected, a Wattala police spokesman said.

The damage caused to the factory was not estimated.
