ACUET on forfeiture of pensions

In an urgent memorandum transmitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa the All Ceylon Union of English Teachers (ACUET) says that pensioners convicted of certain types of offences have had to forfeit their pension under Section 15 of the Pension Minute.

The Union’s Secretary General, M.A. Stanley Perera categorically pointed out to the President that the pensions were earned by the public servants after years of satisfactory service and as such should not be forfeited under any circumstances.

The Union therefore, suggested the deletion of Section 15 of the Pension Minute which made the forfeiture of Pensions possible.

Copies of this Memorandum has been forwarded to the Minister of Public Administration and to Director General of Pensions for their observations and immediate action.
