He was addressing a rally held by the United Left Front to support
Sunil Shantha Ganewatta who is contesting the forthcoming local
government election.
"As our neighbour India is very important to us, we should maintain a
very cordial relationship with them. Whatever is said and done, we
should maintain that relationship with India", he said.
He pointed out that Sri Lanka will have to face severe repercussions
if it fails to maintain that relationship.
'After 30 years of war, the country has become a free nation. Various
international forces are trying to develop a conflict again. Therefore,
we should strengthen bonding with the countries that support our
development by improving bilateral ties and relations.
He said that international forces and various political parties are
trying to damage the good relationship between India and Sri Lanka. But
the government will take care to prevent such a situation since
President Mahinda Rajapaksa values the close Indo-Lanka ties very much.
'Now that Sri Lanka is making great progress in all fields, the
imperialists are trying to disrupt and sabotage it. We have had this
experience throughout our history', he said. |
