Maid's death :

Mother urges probe

A 46-year-old mother of Kanjikuliya, Chilaw has requested authorities here and abroad to conduct an impartial inquiry into the alleged death of her 25-year-old daughter who had been employed in Jordan and get her body down to Sri Lanka to offer her a family burial.

Chandralatha Weerasekara said her daughter W A P Seetha Himali went to Jordan through an employment agency in Marawila to work as a housemaid in a Jordanian household after obtaining training and registering herself here. Seetha who is a mother of one, is reported to have died under mysterious circumstances but the Agency had asked her to provide Rs 200,000 as airfare and other charges to deliver the daughter's body to Sri Lanka.

As she was not in a financial position to make this payment, she requested authorities here and abroad to intervene and get her daughter's body flown to Sri Lanka after initiating a proper inquiry into her death, Weerasekara said.
