The National Mosquito Control Week was launched by Health Minister
Maithripala Sirisena from Nugegoda yesterday. The Presidential Task
Force set up to control dengue, armed forces, the police, Civil Defence
Committees and health authorities will carry out mosquito control
activities during the week.
Legal action was taken against mosquito breeders in and around
Nugegoda after the launching ceremony.
Minister Sirisena stressed that stern action will be taken against
persons who obstruct health officials. The week will end on June 26.
Mosquito control activities will be carried out in 305 MOH areas.
Addressing the launching ceremony, Minister Sirisena pointed out that
the success of mosquito control depends on public and media cooperation.
“The Health Ministry cannot do it alone. A health staffer was attacked
in Dehiwela recently and similar incidents have been reported from many
parts of the country.
The public should assist the health staff to carry out mosquito
control activities because they are trying to save people’s lives,” the
minister added. |
