Award for Lyceum Toastmasters Club
Lyceum Toastmasters Club Nugegoda bagged the prestigious Golden Gavel
Award at the Ovation 2011 - Annual Toastmaster Conference held in Mysore,
India.
This award is given in recognition of a club’s outstanding
achievements obtained by fulfilling requirements stipulated by the
public speaking world body - The Toastmasters International (TMI)
incorporated in USA.
The Golden Gavel Award comes to the Lyceum Toastmasters Club for the
first time. Lyceum Toastmasters Club was one of the only five clubs in
Sri Lanka and one of the only two clubs in Division H of District 82 to
have won this award.
BCIS convocation
'The Annual Convocation of the Bandaranaike Centre for International
Studies (BCIS) will be held on Saturday June 25.
Certificates will be awarded to over 300 students who have
successfully completed their courses in respect of the Certificate,
Diploma (Sinhala and English Mediums), Higher Diploma and Postgraduate
Diploma in International Relations. Students who have topped their
respective batches will be felicitated with Awards of excellence. Chief
Guest will be former Secretary General of Parliament Nihal Senevirathna.
He will deliver the convocation address on the theme 'Parliament and
International Relations'.
Dozens injured in fireworks mishap

Twenty six people who were injured when a sparkler exploded, were
admitted to Beliatta General hospital.
The mishap occurred opposite the Beliatta bus halt during the Poson
perahera, Saturday around 7.30 pm. Six who were critical were
transferred to the Matara General hospital. Three with minor injuries
left the hospital after treatment.
'Moods 2011'
The University of Visual and Performing Arts, Faculty of Dance and
Drama Department of Drama, Ballet and Modern Dance third year- academic
thespians have organized a costume show "Moods 2011" at the University
premises, 21, Albert Crescent, Colombo 07 today at 7.00 pm. This is the
first show of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Economist on CEPA effects

The proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with
India would affect local entrepreneurs and industrialists Mauw Bima
Foundation Chairman Ariyasela Wickramanayaka said.
A veteran economist and entrepreneur Samantha Kumarasinghe pointed
out that agreements with neighbouring countries are essential for a
country to economically progress. But agreements of this type create a
