CNCI Awards fete Lankan industrialists

The ever popular CNCI Achiever Awards for Industrial and Service Excellence for 2011 is expected to take place for the 10th Consecutive year. The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries ( CNCI ) the pioneering industry chamber, which was established Soon after the independence, by a Special Act of Parliament, initiated the concept of awarding the Sri Lankan industry and manufacturing sector for the first time a decade ago. The Special features of the Achiever Awards are that the Sri Lankan industries operating in the SAARC countries, namely India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives will be awarded for their operational excellence, while the SAARC country specific industries who are nominated by their respective industry chambers in their countries are also eligible to apply for SAARC Country Awards.

Last year the Sri Lankan industries operating in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Maldive Islands were among the Gold Winners.

As indicated by CNCI, the respective applications designed for the Achiever Awards Competition for all, Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small and Micro sectors are of unique nature, since the questions are based on modern management, administrative and Financial principles and the filling of the applications itself will be a distinct educational experience for the eligible applicants. As stated by the Secretary General and CEO of the CNCI, Kumara Kandalama, the evaluations of the valued applications will be conducted by three sets of evaluators, before the final evaluations by an eminent panel of judges comprising well experienced, qualified, specialists in the field of management, administration, engineering, quality assurance, Sri Lankan quality standards, marketing, environmental, consumer affairs, productivity, banking and finance, auditing and accountancy fields, assuring the representation of all relevant sectors, which will assure transparency and confidentiality .The eminent panel of judges will be headed by Sunil Wijesinha, a well known Industrialist, and an award winning Quality Assurance Expert in Sri Lanka .

CNCI has already nominated Jaffna and Batticaloa Districts as special areas for the micro sector enterprises . The objective of the exercise is to create goodwill, confidence and friendly relations with Tamil speaking counterparts and to provide them more access to Chamber facilities to enhance their micro sector operations. This initiative by the CNCI, is in par with the vision and the objective of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, creating confidence,encouragement and ethnic harmony and understanding among all citizens in the country .

In the 10th year of the CNCI Achiever Awards, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has come forward as the principal sponsor for this national event for the fifth consecutive year, while the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) has come forward as the press media sponsor for this grand national event for the 10th year, ensuring encouragement to the CNCI from the very inception almost a decade ago. The applications for the Achiever Awards 2011 are available from the Chamber Secretariat and the completed applications are expected by June 30, 2011, prior to evaluation procedure.
