Ananda College to commemorate anniversary
Walk on November 1 to collect funds

Ananda College, Colombo will conduct a walk to collect funds to
commemorate its 125th anniversary which falls on November 1.
The Anandian walk will be held on June 11 at 7.30 am at the Ananda
College premises.
Ananda Old Boys Association President Tilak Karunaratne Addressing a
press conference at the Information Department said that Ananda College
is the centre of Buddhist education in the country.
"The government has to pay attention to develop a number of schools.
Therefore, the Education Ministry is unable to maintain every school
in the same manner. After winning the war, it is the aim of the
government to accord priority to schools in the North and East."
The Ananda College School Development Society, the Old Boys Society
and the Parents Society have identified shortcomings of the school, he
said.
The building which has been put up to commemorate the 1956 Buddha
Jayanthi and the building which was built to commemorate the Ananda
College centenary has been earmarked for renovation to mark her 125th
Anniversary.
The Anandians will include a vehicle parade, three cadets platoons
and school bands. Schoolchildren, parents and old boys will participate.
Distinguished Old Anandians former Prime Minister and Senior Minister
Rathnasiri Wickramanayake, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa,
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Senior Minister Tissa Vitharana,
National Heritage Minister Jagath Balasuriya, Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and around 20 Members of
Parliament will also participate. A new website will also be launched.
Deputy Principal Administration and Finance, Sampath Weragoda and
organizer of the parade Lakmal Fernando also spoke.
