Jaffna MC passes resolution to remove member
The Jaffna Municipality has passed a resolution to remove S
Nishanthan MMC from the ruling party and from the membership of the
council. A copy of the resolution has been sent to Minister Susil
Premajayantha.
Lifting of fishing ban to benefit fisher-folk
After 30 years permission has been given by the Army to fish from
Karachi North Chundikulam to Pepariapity. This was made possible by the
efforts of Parliamentarian Murugesu Chandrakumar.
About 127 families from Kallaru numbering 1236 persons have been
benefited by the lifting of the ban to fish.
Kilinochchi Government Agent Rupawathy Ketheshwaran, Kandavallai
Divisional Secretary Sathiyaseelan, Brigadier Jayasekara and Heads of
government departments participated in a function that marked the
lifting of the ban. Catholic priests blessed the boats and the fishermen
who set out to fish. A large crowd gathered at the seashore to send off
the boats and fisherman for fishing.
TNA member crosses over
Tamil National Alliance MMC Mudaippu Romedias has crossed over to the
ruling party of the Jaffna Municipal Council.
Attempting to draw another’s money, man held
A Vavuniya resident who attempted to draw Rs 1.1 m from the savings
account of another person submitting false documents at a bank in Jaffna
was caught and handed over to Jaffna Police. He has submitted a fake
National Identity Card and his signature too aroused suspicion. The
paying officer detaiend him and informed the Jaffna Police. The Police
have taken him into custody.
Agrarian centre, fertilizer store opened
Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S.M. Chandrasena opened a
renovated Agrarian Development Centre and a fertiliser store at Kaithady
on May 3. The agrarian group leaders met the minister and urged him to
get back their lands now occupied by the Army. The minister promised to
look into their request. |
