The digital radio and television transmission using the Digital Video
Broadcasting’s DVB-T2 digital terrestrial broadcasting standard will
begin through the Kokavil tower for the Northern Province this year, Sri
Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s Director General Anusha
Pelpita said.
He said that the technical equipment required for the digital radio
and television transmission has already been imported for fixing to the
Kokavil tower.
He said that Northerners who suffered during a 30-year long war will
have the opportunity to use high quality, clear services of high speed
Internet, radio, television, and telephone with the introduction of the
Digital system to Sri Lanka’s television, radio and the cinema
industries.
Channels in Sri Lanka at present broadcast using the analogue system
and with the DVB-T2 system broadcasting would be made more productive
and efficient,he said. The system will also reduce the cost on TV
stations he added.
Digital radio and TV transmission will begin in the Western Province
during this year.
All TV and radio stations in the island will function under the
DVB-T2 system, by 2013. The system will also reduce the cost on TV and
radio stations and provide better reception for the local listeners and
television viewers. |
