Thera denounces Sangha protest
Asela Kuruluwansa
It is a slur on the nation and religion that the members of the
Sangha should conduct themselves violently opposite Temple Trees at a
time when the country has a leader who lends his ear to all views and
opinions, Getambe Rajopavanaramadhipathy Ven Keppetiyagoda Sirivimala
Thera said.
“It is a historical record that the Maha Sangha always was in the
vanguard to protect the country at times of peril and to act the way
they did the other day the Sangha should have reasonable grievance,” he
said.
The prelate said what the Sangha should do is to rise against any
wrong doing and not be made use of to promote the views of political
parties.
“If the JVP or any other political party attempts to use the
Katunayake incident to make political capital or tarnish the image of
the country internationally in order to place the government in an
embarrassing position, such action could in no way be condoned,” the Ven
Thera said. |
