Pipe borne water supply scheme for Chettikulam hospital

The Chettikulam hospital in Vavuniya which is a hive of activity following the normalization of civilian life in the region with the defeat of terrorism, is now equipped with its own pipe borne water supply scheme.

This new scheme was commissioned by Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Saturday in the company of Ministry Secretary A Abeygunawardane, NWSDB Chairman Karunasena Hettiarachchi and other officials.

A spokesperson for the ministry said patients and employees of this hospital faced great inconvenience earlier due to the lack of pipe borne water supply. Water brought in bowsers had to be stored in tanks. The ministry hopes to extend the water supply to other areas around the hospital by setting up an NWSBD sub office in Chettikulam in addition to a giant water tower.
