NATO air strikes rock Tripoli again
NATO has carried out its heaviest air strikes
against Libya’s capital in more than two months of bombing, amid
upbeat comments from France and the Uhited States on progress
towards ending Muammar Gaddafi’s rule. Six loud explosions rocked
Tripoli late on Tuesday within 10 minutes, following powerful
strikes 24 hours earlier, including one on Gaddafi’s compound, that
Libyan officials said killed 19 people and state television blamed
on “colonialist crusaders”.

Iraqi Forces eye readiness ahead of US pullout
Iraq’s military is preparing an assessment that
may acknowledge gaps in the country’s security forces, according to
two sources familiar with the matter, a move that could bolster
arguments to extend the US military presence in Iraq. The review of
Iraqi military capabilities, which comes ahead of a planned US
withdrawal by the end of 2011, is expected to be presented to Iraqi
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and other top political leaders, a US
congressional aide told Reuters.

Fermi records gamma ray map of sky
The Third Fermi Symposium in Rome has unveiled
the latest results of the Fermi space telescope including the most
detailed gamma ray map of the sky. The map, which represents the
universe’s most violent and extreme processes, has been prepared
using Gamma rays the highest-energy light millions of times more
energetic than visible light.
