SAARC Cultural Centre to usher cultural renaissance

“The Rs 832 million SAARC Cultural Centre coming up at Nawimana, Matara will provide international exposure to the cultural norms and traditions of the South and bring benefits of overall development to the Nawimana area, said Matara Divisional Secretary Thusitha P Wanigasinghe.

He said the proposed centre will promote cultural relations between the eight SAARC member nations and promote the teaching and exploration of art and cultural traditions in the SAARC region.

There will also be eight official residencies for visiting dignitaries of SAARC nations in the Cultural Centre complex. The road network in 20 Grama niladhari divisions in and around Nawimana is being rehabilitated to cater to the future needs, Divisional Secretary said.
