Junior Tennis stars for Malaysia

The Sri Lanka’s under 14 Girls Tennis team left the island to participate in the Girl’s World Junior Tennis Championships’ Asia/Oceania qualifying round matches to be played in Malaysia. The tournament commenced yesterday and will continue till May 14 at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association Center.

Thisuri Molligoda, Nethmi Waduge (Visaka Vidyalaya, Colombo) and Kavindya de Silva (St Bridget’s Convent, Colombo) were selected on their performances in the pre-qualifying matches which were worked off in Sri Lanka last January. These three budding contenders have represented the country at the ITF Group-II tennis competition held in Myanmar and hopefully will perform well in the Asia/Oceania qualifying matches. Players from 16 countries in the region are expected to take part in this years qualifying games and the matches will be held under the code of conduct of ITF Junior Team Competition.

International Tennis Federation (ITF) with Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) of Malaysia will be conducting the tournament as a part of the World Junior Tennis Championships.
