'BASL denounces Darusman Report'

At the Bar Council meeting held on April 30 a resolution denouncing the Darusman Report was tabled, prepared by Methsiri Cooray and seconded by Raja Collure.

The Bar Council decided to appoint a sub committee of Jayantha Gunasekera P.C., Nihal Jayamanna P.C., Razeek Zarook P.C., Kushan de Alwis (convenor), Yasantha Kodagoda D.S.G, Jefferry Alagaratnam P.C., Anura Meddegoda, Methsiri Cooray to draft a much expanded and a comprehensive resolution on perusing the 199 page Report and adjourned its meeting held on May 7, 2011. At the adjourned Bar Council meeting, the resolution drafted by the above committee was moved, proposed by Methsiri Cooray and seconded by Raja Collure.

The resolution was carried unanimously with amendments moved by Nihal Serasinghe and R.R.Thangarajah. Those who spoke at the above meeting were Jayantha Gunasekera, P.C., Nihal Jayamanne P.C, Razeek Zarook P.C, Yasantha Kodagoda D.S.G. Jefferry Allagaratnam P.C., Nihal Serasinghe, Sena Liyanasuriya, R.R.Thangarajah, Weerakkody and Methsiri Cooray.
