Second round of Speed Racing C'ship on May 22

The second round of the five round speed racing championship jointly
organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle
Club and the Asian Motor Racing Club will be worked off at the Pannala
Race Track on May 22 (Sunday).
The first round of this championship organised by the Ceylon Motor
Sports Club was successfully held on February 13 and this round drew a
considerable number of entries.
The competitors experienced a revamped track with improved safety and
other facilities while the spectators enjoyed a quality race meet with
thrills and spills aplenty.
The organisers have already released the sporting regulations to the
competitors and entries are now open for all Sri Lanka Automobile Sports
(SLAS) approved classes.
Entries will close on May 13 at 10 p.m. at the Speed Drome,
Pannipitiya Road, Battaramulla, for motorcars races and the entries for
the motorcycle races will close on the same day at No. 5A Havelock
Place, Colombo 5. According to the organisers the popular events will
include SLGT 3500 cc (Super cars), SL-H 1600 cc and the One Make Series
of the Mini, Nissan March, Ford Laser, Formula Ford 1600 cc and the
Formula McLarens 1300 cc.
The championship will also make way for newcomers who will race in
the Formula McLarens 1300 cc and also the new Suzuki Maruti/ Alto class.
The results of this championship will be taken into reckoning for the
2011 National Championship of the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports which is
the governing body for Motor Sports in Sri Lanka.
There will be a host of motorcycle events and a number of foreign
riders are expected to participate in this segment and will be taken
into counting for the National Motor Cycle Championship by the governing
body the Federation of Motor Cycle Sports in Sri Lanka.
A new rule brought in by the Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association to
uplift the standard of sport was to include the qualifying of the
motorcycles to determine a grid position for the start of the motor
cycle races. |
