UNP trying to make political capital - Deputy Minister

When millions of people assembled in Colombo shedding all petty differences to defeat conspiracies hatched against the motherland it is regrettable to note the UNP leadership is trying to make political capital by going their separate ways, waiting for an opportunity to inconvenience the government, said Plantation Industries Deputy Minister Earl Gunasekara.

He said what the UNP leadership should have done was to join the mass natural protest campaign in Colombo without going all the way to Bandarawela to hold a May Day rally there.

He said the UNP throughout its history had remained silent on grave natural problems and the people had given it the proper answer at repeated elections. Gunasekara said the massive crowd which assembled in Colombo to participate in the May Day rally proved that the people cannot be hoodwinked by such unfounded allegations.
