'Our people want peace; reports don't interest them' - Arun
Thambimuttu
"Certain western countries instead of helping Sri Lanka, which
eliminated the worst and most dangerous terrorist organization, the LTTE,
are trying to create more and more problems for Sri Lanka. We Sri
Lankans are now living in a liberated country in a peaceful manner. Our
people want peace. They are not interested in the so call Darusman
report or in any unnecessary intervention by UN or any other country.

These remarks were made by UPFA Batticaloa district organizer Arun
Thambimuttu when he participated in the May Day rally in Colombo along
with many thousands of Tamils and Muslims who came from the North and
East in several buses.
He further said that due to the 30 year old conflict our national
economy was completely shattered. "Our President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
through his exemplary governance, has rebuilt our economy and the
country is moving towards development rapidly. The people of the North
and East cannot easily forget the LTTE's atrocities perpetrated against
the innocent civilians. Today people are living in peace and happiness
because the government headed by President Rajapaksa has completely
eliminated terrorism in our land, Thambimuttu said.
"Today all Sri Lankans irrespective of political and other
differences have come forward to support this government and protect it
from foreign anti-government elements and from this so called Darusman
report. Today President Rajapaksa has started a rapid development
programme in the North and East and these two neglected provinces are
today developing rapidly, he said. Thambimuttu further said that his
parents Sam and Kala Thambimuttu were brutally gunned down opposite the
Canadian High Commission in Colombo, several years ago by the LTTE. "Darusman
report never ever mentioned this human rights violation by the LTTE. But
today they make all sorts of baseless allegations against our
government. The people have already rejected this so called report and
thrown it into the dustbin, he said. |
