JHU praises USA but...
The Jathika Hela Urumaya yesterday hailed the elimination of Osama
Bin Laden adding that his death was a victory for all those of the world
community who are against terrorism and value peace.
Issuing a statement, the JHU also praised the action of the USA in
taking another step in its on going efforts to wipe out terrorism from
the face of the earth and said that this was a time for all to forget
all differences and thank and praise the USA for this deed.
The statement issued by JHU leader Ven Omalpe Sobitha Thera also said
that the value of defeating terrorism and its agents to realize
peace, progress and development for a country cannot be overemphasized
when one considers the Sri Lankan situation following the defeat of the
30 year Tiger terrorism.
The JHU recalled that then American President George Bush commenced
strikes on Afghanistan in October 2001 following the 9/11 suicide attack
in America on the understanding that Osama Bin Laden was hiding in that
country.
This developed into full blown 10 year long war and it was no secret
to the world how there was massive loss of civilian lives, dislocation
of population the setting up of torture camps the assault on human
rights and incarceration of those suspected of supporting the
terrorists. Yet the Al Quida leader ultimately met his end in Pakistan.
In Sri Lanka we defeated the most ruthless terrorist organisation in
the world in less than three years and ushered in peace and development.
The American public were today rejoicing on the death of Osama Bin
Laden.
The same joy and jubilation was expressed by all Lankans irrespective
race or religious differences two years ago with the end to terrorism in
the country.
“We also vehemently protest at the attempts by the USA to reverse
this peace and democracy won by Sri Lanka by trying to give life to
Tiger terrorism by official and unofficial action launched against Sri
Lanka when America is celebrating this victory. |
