Pakistan women down Sri Lanka

The Pakistan team led by opener Javeria Kahn scored a thrilling 2
wicket win over a hapless Sri Lankan team in their only One Day
International match played at SSC grounds yesterday. Javeria who played
the sheet anchor role displayed immense concentration and patience to
see her team make a tricky 154 runs in their 50 overs.
Javeria remained not out on 63 of 118 balls with five fours and
struck the winning runs of a wonderful boundary of Eshani Kaushalya in
the 49th over. Captain Sania Mir scored 20 runs while A. Iqbal also
chipped in with 25 runs.
For Sri Lanka Eshani Kaushalya who had a wonderful game with bat and
ball, took three top order wickets for 23 runs. Skipper Sashikala also
took three for 29 runs with her tidy off spinners.
The Sri Lankan women who won the toss opted to bat first and managed
to score just 153 runs before being bowled out in 49.5 overs against a
disciplined Pakistan bowling attack. The Lankans were struggling at 48
for the loss of 6 top order wickets with star batswomen Sandamali
Dolawatta and skipper Shashikala Siriwardena back in the pavilion for
single digit scores.
It was a wonderful partnership of 62 runs between Deepika Rasangika
and the big hitting Eshani Kaushalya that saved the Lankans from a
disgraceful batting collapse. Rasangika scored a stroke filled 31 with
one four and one six in 45 balls while Kaushalya emerged as the top
scorer with 35 runs to her credit. Kaushlaya struck two boundaries in
her knock before she was given LBW of the bowling of Qanita Jalil when
the score was on 122.
Opening bowler Udeshika Prabodhini contributed with a vital 19 runs
and no 11 bat Ravikumar was the last batswomen to be out for 8.
Opening pacie Qanita Jalil bagged 3 wickets for 20 runs while left
arm leg spinner Sadia Yousuf took 3 for 29 in her 10 overs. M.Junaid the
new ball partner of Qanita also claimed 2 wickets for 26 runs.
