Former DIG dies
Retired Deputy Inspector General and one time director of Criminal
Investigation Department, M.D. Amarasena Rajapaksa died after a brief
illness. He was 79.
Born in September, 1931 Amarasena Rajapaksa received his primary and
secondary education at St Benedict's College, Kotahena where he excelled
in academic studies and sports.
Amarasena joined the Police Department as a Sub Inspector in 1951 and
he was appointed OIC of a number of police stations in the North, East
and many other districts after a comprehensive training at the Police
Training School at Katukurunda.
Rajapaksa became an Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1969 and
was attached to the CID in 1974.
He was appointed director of the CID in 1979. Retired DIG Amarasena
Rajapaksa who had more than 43 years service in the Police Department,
received comprehensive training in crime investigation in Malaysia, Hong
Kong, Singapore, Japan and the Scotland Yard Police.
His funeral will be held at General Cemetery, Kanatte on April 24.
