Rotten eggs sold at popular hotel

A popular Tourist Hotel at Ella under the management of a Five Star Hotel in Colombo, had served eggs which were not fit for human consumption. The detection was done by a Public Health Inspector. On further examination, it had been found that food had been stored along with poisonous insecticides.

Due to this serious violation of the Food Act 1980, No: 26 under Sub Section 2:1 & 32, the Public Health Inspector has arranged for drastic action to be taken.

A few months ago, the very same tourist hotel had stored meat, fish and other food items together in the deep freezer and when the PHI made a surprise check, they had been caught red-handed and fined a sum of Rs 500.

During, the Wasantha Udana Celebrations held at Bandarawela, Uva Province, Governor C Nanda Mathew, had ordered the authorities to check hotels in the province selling rancid food to customers and on examining the hotels, the PHI had come across the said popular Tourist Hotel in Ella offering eggs and other food items which were not fit for human consumption.
