One million signatures against UN panel report

The Inter Provincial Private Bus Operators together with the Private Transport Services Ministry and National Transport Board yesterday launched a campaign to obtain one million signatures against the United Nation expert panel report on alleged accountability issues.

The agitation which commenced at Bastian Road, Colombo is to be extended islandwide. Artistes, sportsmen and a large number from the public signed the petition denouncing the Ban Ki Moon committee report yesterday.

A committee has been appointed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to look into alleged accountability by Sri Lanka but the report has been compiled in a manner to insult the country's President and security forces. "All nationals Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims should agitate against the Ban Ki Moon committee report," said Private Transport Services Minister C B Ratnayake. Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the media that a large number of allegations were made against Sri Lanka without evidence.
