President’s vision fully endorsed at LG polls - Deputy Minister

Construction and Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanne said the outcome of the Local Government elections clearly demonstrated that people have fully endorsed the vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to take the country forward.

The Deputy Minister said so at a reception held at Mahara Pradeshiya Sabaha premises welcoming the Mahara PS Chairman Sahan Pradeep Vithana who was re-elected. The Deputy Minister further said that the people have fully realized that development can only take place in their villages if they work with the UPFA to strengthen Local Government institutions.

The election result also clearly shows the severe setback faced by the UNP and JVP.

Alagiyawanna said that Mahara PS Chairman Sahan Pradeep Vithana during the past four years has fulfilled a large amount of work to uplift villages in Mahara electorate. The ‘Maga Neguma’ and ‘Gama Neguma’ programmes have played a major role to develop the rural road network and other infrastructure facilities.

During the election campaign we told the people of four wheels of our vehicle. We have already fixed three wheels – Presidential, General and the Provincial Council wheels.

We have to fix only Local Government election wheel to our vehicle. If a wheel of the Opposition political party is fixed to this vehicle, it will not match. Therefore, we requested the people to fix this wheel also from the UPFA to expedite the Government’s development drive.

Mahara PS Chairman Sahan Pradeep Vithana said this victory is the people’s victory.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Deputy Minister Construction and Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Lasantha Alagiyawanna will allocate funds to develop Mahara in the coming years too.
