Nuclear accidents:
Atomic Energy Authority proposes MoU with India

The Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority has proposed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the Indian government as a precautionary action
over possible nuclear accidents, Chairman Dr W Abeywickrema told the
Daily News.
He said that the proposal has been extended to the Power and Energy
Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry.
India contains 20 nuclear plants. According to geographical data, the
distance between Sri Lanka and India is about 20 km.
The Chairman said that three nuclear plants are being constructed in
South India while eight more plants have been planned. |
