Sri Lanka Light Infantry-volleyball champions

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment secured the championship title
for the Agrarian Services and Wildlife Commissioner's Challenge trophy
for the disabled sportsmen of inter-regiment National Volleyball
Tournament held recenty at the National Youth Centre Indoor Stadium.
Ten regiments participated at the tournament, and Gajaba and Sri
Lanka Light Infantry Regiment qualified for the finals.
The match for the third place of the tournament was also held between
Gemunu Watch Regiment and Vijayaba Infantry Regiment. Vijayaba Infantry
Regiment finished in 3rd place in the tournament.
At the finals between Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka Infantry
regiment, Sri Lanka Infantry Regiment scored 25-20, 25-22, and 25-17
Consecutively and emerged the champions.
This is the first time that a volleyball tournament was conducted in
Sri Lanka for the disabled war heroes.
The following set of sportsmen were selected to be rewarded for the
special performances at the tourney. .

The objective of this tournament is to select a volleyball pool of
disabled sportsmen to be send to the World disabled persons Volleyball
Tournament to be held in June 2011 in Cambodia.
The Minister and the Chairman of Disabled Volleyball Federation S M
Chandrasena, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunatillaka and the Chairman,
Director General of the National Youth Council Lalith Pium Perera graced
the awards and prize distribution ceremony.
