IGP to New Year shoppers:
Look out for pickpockets, snatch thieves
IGP Mahinda Balasooriya yesterday warned the
public to be extra vigilant during the festive season shopping since
pickpockets and snatch thieves were on the prowl ready to cash in
from the congestion. Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told
the Daily News that IGP Balasooriya had instructed him to deploy a
sufficient number of police personnel to man market places, bus
stands and railway stations to prevent pick pocketing, chain
snatching and other crimes.

IGP orders Police transfers
IGP Mahinda Balasuriya has transferred three
police officers including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the
Western Province (North) Kithsiri Dayananda. Accordingly, DIG
Dayananda has been transferred to Anuradhapura with immediate
effect.
