Trinity down Thomians to rewrite record books
Trinity College Kandy cruised to their second successive victory this
season when they defeated S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia by a huge 75
points to 6 points in their annual inter school under 19 rugby
tournament match worked off at Mount Lavinia yesterday.
The Trinitians also went on to regain the Canon R. S. de Saram Shield
while recording the biggest victory in the series. Trinity College
collected their points from five goals and eight tries while S. Thomas'
managed only a penalty and a drop goal. The previous highest score in
the series was when Trinity College under centre, Lion Chan Ye Ching
routed S. Thomas' College by 70 points to 8 points in 1974 at Kandy. The
Thomians were led by Peter Vanniasingkam on that occasion.
Trinity College of course sealed the game even before half time as
they built up a commanding 34-6 lead at the half way mark. They cut
loose in the second half and added a further 41 points in the second
half to complete a rousing victory at the end.
