Two nabbed for robbery at leading firm
The Mount Lavinia Police investigating a robbery of Rs 4,500,000
belonging to a leading Colombo firm following a shooting incident
opposite a supermarket in Kesbewa have arrested two suspects resident in
Piliyandala in this connection.
The Police also recovered two hand grenades of a foreign make from
their possession. The suspects are held under detention orders.
Investigations are continuing.
Three wheeler waylaid: Gold chain robbed
A three wheeler plying along Katuwatta road was waylaid at
Kilalagahawela on Sunday by unidentified person who had robbed a gold
chain worn by a person travelling in it after attacking him with a manna
knife.
One of the suspects injured in the ensuring clash is warded at the
Balapitiya hospital. A prison guard has been placed for the injured
suspect. Uragasmanhandiya Police are investigating.
Lorry crash kills one
One person died when a lorry from Kurunegala to Anamaduwa ran off the
road near the Anamaduwa Police station and crashed on to a Mara tree
during wee hours on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Adaswiriya Mudiyanselage Ranmenike 70,
of Anamaduwa. The lorry driver who was injured is receiving treatment at
the Kurunegala hospital. Anamaduwa Police are investigating.
Fined for selling illicit liquor

A person proved guilty of brewing and selling illicit liquor was
fined Rs 35,000 by the Galle Chief Magistrate Tamara Tennakoon.
It was also revealed that the accused had been charged for the same
offence on several other occasions.
