Coconut seedlings for 2.5 m families

The Coconut Development and Plantation Industries Ministry will
provide five coconut seedlings each for 2.5 million families in the
country.
“Ten million seedlings have already been distributed while another 10
million will soon be distributed in Divisional Secretary’s Divisions
this year”, said Coconut Development and Plantation Industries Minister
Jagath Pushpakumara at a coconut fertilizer subsidy distribution
ceremony held at Agricultural Centre, Alawwa.
He said that action has been taken to distribute coconut seedlings to
the public sector under this project. Research has identified these
coconut seedlings as high yielding varieties. Coconut Cultivation Board
provides instructions for cultivation.
This programme is launched in keeping with the Mahinda Chinthana to
strengthen the coconut industry, the Minister added.
Kurunegala district parliamentarian Shantha Bandara and North Western
Provincial Councillor Sumith Kumara Rajapaksa also spoke. |
