The Sri Lanka Ports Authority is expected to sign agreements with
eligible investors who have submitted project proposals seeking cabinet
approval to commence new ventures at the Magampura Port premises.
Magampura Port Chief Engineer Agil Hewageegana said the Cabinet
appointed negotiation committee established to look for Magampura
project proposals will present its recommendations to the cabinet
shortly.
Hewageegana said they have selected 15 companies to grant permission
to build ventures at the port premises and at the moment they have had
discussions with 11 companies to examine what kind of facilities
particularly, water, road and land requirements investors need to
commence businesses at the port premises.
“We have selected one investor for cement grinding, cement bagging
and sugar refinery respectively and three investors for petro
chemicals,” he said.
In 2010, the Government called for project proposals from preferred
investors to set-up new ventures at the Magampura Port premises in
cement grinding, warehouse, car assembling, sugar refinery, fertilizer,
petrochemicals and other investment areas.
