Trinity College opened their rugby season on a triumphant note by
registering a 10 points (two tries) to 3 (one penalty) win over their
home town rivals St Anthonys College in their schools rugby tournament
match played at Trinity College Rugby Stedium at Pallekelle yesterday.
At half time Trinity led 5-3.
The last 15 minutes of the game was played in semi darkness with the
players hardly able to identify their own players.
It was the Antonians who opened scoring when in the 16th a Trinity
defender was spotted off side and fly half Chamara Kumara fired the 35
metre penalty which was awarded.
Trinity's reply came in the 23rd minute when their three quarters
moved the ball and centre Dilshan Kalyanagalla scored far left. Winger
Lakala Karunatilleke failed to add the extra points.
There was a lull in scoring during the next 20 minutes with both
teams striving hard to score but their defences held.
In the 20th minute of the second half Trinity three quarters moved
the ball beautifully and winger Mohamed Shashan with a burst of speed
scored far left are winger M Shiek failed to add the extra points. The
period of play which followed was bitterly fought but there was no
addition to the score. radeep Fernando refereed |
