Two fleeing prisoners arrested

The police arrested two inmates out of three who tried to escape the Jaffna prison yesterday.

According to Prisons Commissioner Major General VR de Silva, two inmates were serving a jail sentence for a murder in Point Pedro, and the other robbery. They are aged 15,17 and 19.

A search is on for the third inmate.

The Commissioner pointed out that the Jaffna prison is not upto standard. He said that a house was used as a jail which enabled the escape easy.

He added that action is taken to move them to Vavuniya prison.
