Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said that
arrangements have been made to setup a new packaging centre to develop
the industry. The Ministry has also opened opportunities for Sri Lankan
packagers to get training from India and Thailand to bring new packaging
technology to the country.
The Minister made these remarks at the Star Award Nite 2010 held to
recognize those who excelled in the packaging industry. The ceremony was
organized by Sri Lanka Packaging Institute. Awards were given to
selected packagers among novices and veterans in the industry. The
Minister also said it was important to give a face lift to the packaging
industry as it contributes much to the export field. In most countries,
two to three percent of the Gross National Product is from the packaging
industry.
The industry and Commerce Ministry has planned to uplift the research
and development units in the industry, he said.
Minister Bathiudeen noted that the ministry had given relief to
import packaging raw material as well. He also said that the Ministry
tried its best to solve all problems in the industry and had actively
participated in the package industry development. |
