CAA staff assaulted

Two officers attached to the Consumer Affairs Authority's Puttalam District office were injured and admitted to the Mundalama Hospital after being assaulted by staff of a hotel at Naravilluwa junction during a raid conducted Tuesday to seize a stock of outdated bottles of fruit juice kept for sale.

Mundalama Police investigating the incident have taken four suspects into custody for questioning in this connection.

The raid was conducted on a tip-off that the hotel was selling outdated food items to passengers of long distance buses stopping over for a short interval near the hotel. Investigations are continuing.
