Foreseeing a tremendous potential to position itself as a more
involved and proactive business entity to support regional development,
the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) launched its Regional Enterprise
Development Initiative (REDI) - a web-based portal for interaction and
information sharing, on March 25, - the day the CCC marked 172 years of
dedicated service to the private sector.
The launch took place during a program - SME Access to Finance -
conducted by the CCC for the benefit of regional entrepreneurs, along
with the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and
the Pacific (ADFIAP) and the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (CACCI). The Chamber (along with its partners in
this project) hopes to direct regional enterprises through a doorway of
access to recourses on investment and investment opportunities, sector
and specific innovative information on products and new product
developments, and access to a storage of information on investors and
investees, and generate detailed information through a resourceful
database.
Whilst the needs of regions vary from one area to another, CCC
through its pioneering experience and networking abilities will be in a
position to be a driving force to provide a more coordinated service to
the regions.
CCC is currently involved in rebuilding and supporting regional
development initiatives and institutions; the main focus is on regional
enterprise enhancement and on issues faced by them. The blog address is

hSenid launches SaaS
Harshini Perera
hSenid Mobile will launch Software as a Service (SaaS) among small
and medium companies in the local and international market.
The SaaS will be launched before the end of April this year and will
be a model for Sri Lanka.
The company will launch this system in the international market in
Singapore, Malaysia and India where hSenid has a strong presence, hSenid
Mobile CEO Dinesh Saparamadu told Daily News Business. “Not only small
and medium companies but also large companies can utilize the SaaS as
cost effective software method to improve the function of their
companies.
The system will be similar to that of using Google mail with Internet
connection and a computer. The companies need not to have a dedicated IT
group but could work on the system as the best practices software.
He said that deploying this system will cause less capital
expenditure for companies.
It will be an enterprise level software which will be affordable that
does not need much physical infrastructure.
“The system will be launched in other countries in the second half of
this year. hSenid expects that nearly 50 companies will use this
software during this year and increase it gradually.
We have invested a large amount in building the cloud infrastructure
for this system,”he said.
Softlogic to unveil Dell tablet PCs
Charumini de Silva
The Softlogic Trading (Pvt) Ltd, will soon introduce Dell tablets and
a range of mobile products to Sri Lankan market.
Speaking to Daily News Business Softlogic Trading (Pvt) Ltd, CEO and
Director Roshan Rassool said that despite the downturn in the economy,
the IT and mobile market has shown a significant growth over the years.
With the development in the IT industry and the increased demand for
consumer products; the company intends to introduce Dell tablets and a
range of mobile products to Sri Lanka.
“We are forecasting that the tablet market will approximately carve
out two to three percent of the current market size in the next couple
of years. The demand for consumer products market has been growing at a
considerable growth.
Tablet PCs are a category of equipment between a smart phone and a
notebook. Customers who are looking at web surfing, mail and
entertainment such as music, photos and podcasts will be key users. In
Sri Lanka this is a new category and this segment will have to be
developed,” Rassool said.
At present mobile products such as desktop, notebook ratio in the
market is around 3:1 and in 2 years back it was 5:1. This is a clear
indication that the mobility is accepted by consumers and will be the
way forward. There is much potential for system and solution integration
as there are platforms that are coming in such as cloud computing, green
computing and virtualizations to be catered.
According to International Data Corporation (IDC) consumer market is
around 38 percent of the total market size. However, based on imports,
Softlogic has around eighteen percent of the market share in the
consumer Segment. This has been achieved within one year of introducing
the consumer range in Sri Lanka.
